One of the film’s pivotal Christmas Eve Mass scene was shot one Friday night with the help of around 70 local volunteers who filled the pews as extras. The charming small-town backdrop of Winnipeg perfectly captured the heartwarming holiday spirit that the movie wanted to convey.
Historic churches and snow-dusted streets provided quaint, festive streetscapes that got decorated for Christmas. Manitoba’s beautiful, snowy background really captured the feel of winter for the film.

It was summer when they shot the film, so for the 16 day shoot, summer decorations had to be removed, and fake snow had to be made to help complete the winter feel. Local volunteers helped to add warmth to the mass sequence which made it come to life.
