Rick and Morty Season 9 premieres on Sunday, May 24, at 11:00 PM ET/PT on Adult Swim.

The season consists of 10 episodes and is set to end on July 26, 2026.

Every title is a play on a famous movie name, which has been a tradition of the show for several seasons now. Rick Fu Hustle, Mortgully: The Last Rickforest, and Rickuiem Mort a Dream are the ones that already have fans the most excited based on what they suggest about the episodes’ plots.

A quick note for newer fans: Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden took over the lead roles ahead of Season 7 after Justin Roiland, who originally voiced both Rick and Morty, left the show. Showrunner Scott Marder has been equally direct about what fans can expect. During a Reddit AMA, Marder said, “I would say Rick and Morty Season 9 will convince everyone we’ve got a full tank of gas left in us,” and added that “the episode ideas are still really flowing, and Rick still has plenty of mean left in him.”

Executive producer Steve Levy gave one of the best ratings a producer can give their own show. When asked to rate the season using the show’s internal “Harmontown Olives” scale (where fewer olives is better), Levy said Season 9 is “1 Olive” and called it some of their best work.

First-look images released by Adult Swim show Rick restraining Morty by the neck (a classic moment), a drunken Rick towering over desperate villagers, a creepy figure walking out of an RV, Morty shocked as he opens a door, a tender Rick and Morty moment by a fire, Rick in full action-movie mode, a giant Rick causing destruction, and Rick acting in a covert, sneaky way.

The season is also being called “bigger, bolder, and more ambitious than ever.”

For those who felt Season 8 was a bit light on classic Rick and Morty teamwork and adventures, the episode titles alone suggest Rick and Morty Season 9 swings back toward exactly that.

Why Rick and Morty still Matters after 9 Seasons

Most animated shows start to run out of steam after a few seasons. Rick and Morty has managed to avoid that, partly because it refuses to stay in one lane.

The show can do a pure comedy episode one week, then follow it up with something that genuinely hurts to watch. It can spend an entire episode inside a simulation of a simulation, or spend 20 minutes doing a parody of a specific movie genre so perfectly that it works as both a parody and an actual great version of that genre.

Dan Harmon has spoken about this at length over the years. He told Radio Times back in 2023: “It’s all been very challenging. I was certainly never gonna let the show die. We’re writing Rick and Morty Season 9, we had way too much quality work down the pipe that I would have never let go away.”

This also marks the first season with no involvement from Bardel Entertainment, who had been providing animation services since the very beginning, animating all of Seasons 1 through 6 and 11 episodes from Seasons 7 and 8. A new animation team takes over fully for Season 9, which could mean a slightly different visual feel while keeping the core style intact.

Is Rick and Morty Renewed Beyond Season 9?

Yes, and by a lot.

Executive producer Steve Levy confirmed that the team has Rick and Morty Season 9 in post-production, Season 10 in active production, and Season 11 already in the writing stage, saying the show is “a lot further along than you think.”

The show was originally renewed for 70 episodes back in 2018, which covers it well into Season 12. There is also strong belief within the production that the show will continue beyond that. When asked whether they expect a Season 13, Levy said he believes they will get one.
