FILMING LOCATIONS

Where was Every Year After filmed? Every Location Explained

Every Year After is a 2026 romantic drama series and an Amazon Original, streaming exclusively on Prime Video. It is based on Carley Fortune’s debut novel Every Summer After, published in 2022. The series is developed by showrunner Amy B. Harris and follows Percy Fraser and Sam Florek, childhood friends whose summers at the lakeside town of Barry’s Bay slowly turn into first love – and eventually, first heartbreak. The show unfolds across two timelines: their teenage years at the lake and their adult lives several years later. It stars Sadie Soverall as Percy and Matt Cornett as Sam. All eight episodes were released on June 10, 2026, and the series premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 8, 2026.

Is Barry’s Bay a real place?

Yes, and it is worth knowing about even if the show was not filmed there.

The real Barry’s Bay is a small town in Ontario, Canada, about two hours west of Ottawa. The town has a population of approximately 1,100 people. Not only is Barry’s Bay the setting for Every Summer After, but it is also where Fortune spent many of her childhood days.

Fortune described what growing up there was like:

"Our house was down a dirt road in the middle of the bush and on the water. I spent my summers much like Percy and Sam - swimming, reading, and when I got older, working in the evenings at my parents' restaurant."

The town has become a real destination for fans of the book. Two commemorative benches dedicated to characters from the novel were installed in the town. The “Percy & Sam” bench, featuring the inscription “Percy and Sam were here,” is located at the Barry’s Bay Public Beach, while the “Charlie & Alice” bench can be found at the Barry’s Bay Railway Station.

So while the show moved Barry’s Bay to British Columbia, the original Ontario town is very much real and very much worth a visit if you are a fan of the novel.

Every Year After Filming Locations

Every Year After was filmed primarily in British Columbia, Canada. The series was shot across three main locations: Vancouver, North Shore Studios at 555 Brooksbank Avenue in North Vancouver, and Bowen Island in British Columbia. Principal photography for the series began on June 4, 2025, in Vancouver, and concluded on September 18, 2025. The production worked through the British Columbia summer, which meant the landscape was at its most stunning during the shoot.

Here is a quick overview of all confirmed filming locations:

Bowen Island, British Columbia

This is the location that fans of the book are going to have feelings about. In Carley Fortune’s novel, Barry’s Bay is set in Ontario’s Cottage Country, which is where Fortune herself grew up. But for the series, the creative team made a deliberate decision to move the setting west.

Fortune told Publishers Weekly,

"I'm so sick of Canadian places in film and TV standing in for other locations, usually American. But we're filming in British Columbia, which does not look like Ontario. So, I thought, let's just let British Columbia be British Columbia: we reset it as Barry's Bay. I didn't want them to crop out the mountains. It's just so beautiful!"

That quote explains everything. The mountains in the background of Barry’s Bay? Completely real. That is Bowen Island.

Bowen Island sits just a 20-minute ferry ride off the coast of Vancouver, and its combination of sparkling waters and wooden boardwalks gave the production exactly the lakeside intimacy the story required.

Bowen Island served as the main filming location as the Real Barry's Bay in Every Year After series

The choice of Bowen Island was not random, either. Producer Grace Gilroy, a Bowen Island resident of over two decades, read the script and immediately thought of Bowen. She concluded that the island held the right small-town feel and natural beauty to bring Barry’s Bay to life.

On June 24 and 25, the crew filmed at the Union Steamship Co. property (both interior and exterior), the Snug Cove Boardwalk, the Lagoon Causeway, and the Dorman Point Trail.

Vancouver, British Columbia

Percy’s life outside of Barry’s Bay is set in Seattle. But like many productions that film in Vancouver, the crew never left Canada to pull it off.

The Stack at 1133 Melville Street featured in the series

In order to depict the scenes set in the city of Seattle, the production team used the modern locales and architecture of Vancouver. The exterior of The Stack at 1133 Melville Street seemingly doubled as the office where Percy works as an obituary writer. The strategic establishing shots of Vancouver may also feature landmarks such as Harbor Center, Living Shangri-La, Vancouver House, and One Wall Center.

Vancouver has been the go-to stand-in for dozens of American cities for years. It works so well because the downtown core is dense and modern, which makes Seattle an easy sell. If you have ever watched a show set in a Pacific Northwest city and thought something looked slightly off, there is a good chance it was filmed in Vancouver.

North Shore Studios, Vancouver

Not everything you see on screen was filmed outside. A big portion of the series, especially the indoor scenes, was built and shot at North Shore Studios in North Vancouver.

North Shore Studios at 555 Brooksbank Avenue was used for shooting many interior scenes of Every Year After series

North Shore Studios at 555 Brooksbank Avenue, formerly known as Lions Gate Studios, is home to eight purpose-built sound stages, seven buildings with production office space, and four backlot sets, making it one of the most popular filming destinations in Greater Vancouver.

Various homes, indoor gathering spaces, and key dramatic settings were built and filmed here, allowing the production team to maintain consistency throughout the dual-timeline storytelling.

The dual timeline structure of the show means scenes jump back and forth between the past and present. Controlling those sets in a studio environment makes that kind of storytelling much easier to manage.

Deep Cove, Vancouver

The production team of Every Year After was also spotted filming numerous scenes in the Deep Cove area in the easternmost part of the District of North Vancouver.

Deep Cove is a scenic waterfront community known for its calm waters and mountain views. The area’s relaxed atmosphere blends seamlessly with the show’s themes of memory, longing, and unfinished relationships.

Deep Cove is one of those places that does not need a lot of camera tricks to look beautiful. It already looks like a movie.he Prime Video’s Every Year After.

Can You visit the Every Year After filming locations?

Absolutely. Both the real Barry’s Bay in Ontario and the Bowen Island filming locations are open to the public.

If you want to visit Bowen Island, here is what you need to know:

Bowen Island is just a 20-minute ferry ride off the coast of Vancouver and is the kind of place that feels genuinely removed from the pace of the city without being inaccessible. The ferry departs from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. Once you are on the island, you can walk through Snug Cove, grab a meal at Doc Morgan’s, and stand on the same boardwalk where Percy and Sam’s story played out on screen.

If you are more of a book purist and want to see the real Barry’s Bay, Ontario is the destination. You can visit the public beach where the Percy and Sam bench sits, explore the town, and see for yourself why Fortune was so inspired by it growing up.
