Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there will be a sequel to Interstellar. Director Christopher Nolan has not confirmed any plans for a sequel and there has been no further development on the project since its cancellation in 2018.
However, fans have expressed their desire to see a sequel and some have speculated that a sequel may eventually happen in the future.
When Will Interstellar 2 Come Out?
Interstellar 2 was scheduled to be release on November 5th, 2023 but it was cancelled later by director Christopher Nolan due to some undisclosed reason.
Even though, Nolan never said anything officially regarding the sequel, fans are stil hoping to see Matthew McConaughey in the role of Joseph Cooper once again.

Tried pitching Interstellar II script through the producers but hit several walls. Proprietary mostly. Yet one in particular loved the plot so much they suggested I rewrite it as an original. But it is built on the original Interstellar and is as good (otherwise why bother?).
An alien race called the Immani come through the wormhole at Saturn and wipe out humanity (to prevent them from settling on their home worlds). Edmund’s Planet is forgotten. 25 years later, Coop and Brand are wakened from cryo sleep because the Plan B race of Embryonics are dying off. Coop has to return to Saturn to seek a cure and to find out why no one ever contacted them on Edmund’s. He is forced to jury rig a lander to make the trip because his and Brand’s son Dayton crashed the only Ranger they had.
There is much much more, but I’m saving it for the audience should this sell. My script explains who “They” are and what their plan is… also the solution to harness gravity I explain as well as the method of forming anti-gravity fields.
Coop will communicate with “They” in the various forms of Murphy and Donald… and when he makes it to Saturn, he discovers the fate of the human race there. Once again humanity is on the verge of extinction… and Coop much go to the Immani to try to save the Ebonics back on Edmund’s.
Wow, with that script, a third movie is also possible.
I think they will explore Mars this time.
Interstellar is an excellent movie, it definitely deserves a sequel and even threequel.
