Like traditional Hallmark movies, this feel-good holiday film features beautiful winter backdrops that get viewers in the festive spirit. So where did Hallmark choose to film this movie?
Under the Christmas Sky filming locations
Under the Christmas Sky was filmed in the beautiful city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Filming for the Hallmark movie began in May 2023 and wrapped on June 30, 2023 in Winnipeg, Sydney Sabiston posted many behind the scenes photos on Instagram.
Winnipeg is known for its cold winters and snowy landscapes, which made it the perfect backdrop for a Christmas movie. Moreover, the city is sometimes nicknamed “Winterpeg” due to its super cold winters. The city’s beautful architecture provided a perfect backdrop for the movie.
The film’s production company, Cartel Pictures, is based in Winnipeg, so it was a natural choice for the filming location. In addition, the Candian city offers a number of filming incentives for cinematographers, which makes it a more affordable option for film producers.
According to local Winnipeg media reports, some of the key locations used for filming included the Forks National Historic Site (for outdoor Christmas market scenes), The Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel (potentially used as the lobby/interior of a grand hotel in the movie), the Centennial Concert Hall, and the legislative grounds of the Manitoba Legislative Building.
The Forks, Winnipeg
The Forks is a national historic site at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers in Winnipeg. Many exterior scenes of the movie were filmed at the historic site, including the skating rink and the Christmas market.
Fairmont, Winnipeg
The Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel was used to film the hotel scenes while Exchange district was used to film many street scenes.
Centennial Concert Hall
The Concert Hall is a performing arts venue located in downtown Winnipeg. It was used to film the interior scenes of the planetarium.
The Fairmont Winnipeg
The Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel was used to film all the hotel scenes and finally we have Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
Canadian Museum for Human Rights
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) was used as the filming location for several scenes in the Hallmark movie Under the Christmas Sky. The museum’s unique architecture and modern design provided a stunning backdrop for the film’s story about love, loss, and hope.
In the film, the CMHR is used as the setting for a planetarium exhibit. The Tower of Hope is a 10-story glass tower that offers panoramic views of Winnipeg and the surrounding area.
