The latest Hallmark romantic comedy ‘A Scottish Love Scheme‘ transports viewers across the Atlantic to the beautiful landscapes of Scotland.
Directed by Heather Hawthorn Doyle from a script of Gina Azzi, the rom-com movie stars Jordan Young and Erica Durance as leads along with Jo Cameron Brown as Young’s mother.
The movie is executive produced by Jenni Baynham, Kristofer McNeeley, and Chaya Ransen with BRB Pictures & White Stag Films for the Hallmark Channel.
A Scottish Love Scheme Filming Locations
A Scottish Love Scheme was entirely filmed across beautiful locations in Scotland, primarily at Hailes Castle, Haddington and Yellowcraig Beach, North Berwick.
Principal shooting began on August 7, director Hawthorne shared on her social media.
The shooting wrapped after 17 days on August 27, 2023 within the constituent country of the United Kingdom.
Hailes Castle, Haddington, East Linton
Much of the filming took place at the ruins of Hailes Castle, located just outside the town of East Linton in East Lothian, Scotland.
Parts of the castle date back to the 13th century, and today the crumbling yet magnificent castle sits peacefully above the River Tyne.
Some walls were damaged in border wars with England, and only partial walls and structures stands today but the castle remains an impressive backdrop for shooting a historic movie.
Keith Marischal, Humble, East Lothian
On July 29, director Heather Hawthorne Doyle shared a photo of Keith Marischal on social media with the caption,
“This is home for the next month. Blessed to be in Scotland – feels like a fairytale.”
This coincided with the filming of “A Scottish Love Scheme,” indicating that Keith Marischal was used as the house in the film.
The Scottish Baronial Country house is located in the parish of Humble in East Lothian, Scotland.
Over the next few weeks, Doyle shared more behind-the-scenes photos of the Hailes Castle grounds, some showing filming equipment or crew members preparing for shooting while some showing cloudy Scottish skies.
Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland, UK
The cast and crew also filmed scenes in the Royal Burgh of Haddington, the county town of East Lothian approximately 10 miles from Hailes Castle.
Production team was spotted filming scenes along the streets and in the town center. If you live in Haddington, you may catch some of local businesses and landmarks when the movie airs.
Known for its history, architecture, and charming restaurants, Haddington provided an ideal small town setting for the shooting of this Hallmark romance movie.
Dirleton, North Berwick, UK
While many small villages might be hesitant about a bustling movie crew taking over, Dirleton residents could not have been more welcoming and accommodating.
Owners of The Castle Inn pub, which sits opposite the castle ruins, kindly closed their business to allow filming on the premises.
They explained the brief closure to East Lothian Courier, stating “it has been a pleasure to have the production crew in.”
Locals noted seeing vintage vehicles, props (Haddington Train Station), crew vans, and fake signage transforming Dirleton into a movie set over the course of a week in August. The working title was A Scottish Love Story.
Yellowcraig Beach, North Berwick
On August 27th, director Doyle shared a photo from the last day of filming showing a heart shape made of leaves and flowers on a sandy beach.
Her caption reflected warmly on the cast, crew and overall filming experience in Scotland. She wrote, “A Scottish Love Scheme” entirely filmed, appropriately so, in Scotland.”
With over a mile of golden sand flanked by grassy dunes, this scenic beach facing the Firth of Forth estuary is a nature lover’s paradise.
From beach strolls to horseback riding, Yellowcraig Beach offers plenty of possibilities for a romantic movie finale.
The natural beauty of the crescent bay captured on film will showcase this Scottish treasure at its best.

Durance shares her excitement over the premiere of her new film with a short clip from the official trailer of A Scottish Love Scheme.
