Asia and her sister Maria are running from their abusive father. They try to hide but get caught. Maria ends up back with their father. Asia goes to jail.
Ten years later, Asia gets out and starts fresh. She takes a housekeeping job at The Virgil, a fancy old hotel in Manhattan. She uses a fake name. She just wants to work and move on.

The rest of the movie is basically one long, chaotic survival night. It does not slow down much.
Review
They Will Kill You holds a 64% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a 77% audience score.
The movie flopped in theaters but became the number one film on HBO Max shortly after hitting the platform, topping the charts in the United States and other countries. That kind of comeback does not happen for bad movies. It happens when a film just needed the right audience to find it.

| Rotten Tomatoes Critics | 64% |
| Rotten Tomatoes Audience | 77% |
| Metacritic | 50 out of 100 |
| CinemaScore | B minus |
Some critics called it pure midnight movie madness. Others said the gore was wonderfully done, even when it got ridiculous, and that the movie was just fun enough to forgive its flaws. A few critics were not fans. But most people watching it at home are having a great time with it.
Zazie Beetz gets consistent praise for her performance. She is a big reason the movie works as well as it does.
Is it family-friendly?
Not even a little. They Will Kill You is rated R for strong bloody violence, gore, language, and brief sexual content and nudity. Keep the kids out of the room for this one.
