Fans were speculating that the next part of the movie can be Moana 2 The Lost Island but it seems that the studio is having something much better than that, a live action film and an animated series.
We had no clue what could be the future of Moana until Disney Animation announced in January 2022 that Derrick Jr. will direct an animated series that will continue the story after the first part of the inspiring film.

Moana is a 2016 computer-animated musical film is produced by Osnat Shurer under Disney Animation Studios and distributed under Walt Disney Motion Pictures.
Ron Clements and John Musker are the directors, Lin-Manuel has composed the music while Don Hall, and Chris Williams joined as co-directors. Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson are the main voice actors for the movie.
The film was theatrically released in US cinemas on Nov 23, 2016 and received a lot of positive reviews from the critics along with an accumulation of $645 Million on the box office.
When does Moana 2 come out on Disney Plus?
On 22 Jan 2022, Disney Animation confirmed that David G Derrick Jr will direct Moana series for Disney plus.
Even though, we didn’t get a Moana 2, we will still be able to see more out of our favorite sailing girl as the upcoming series will continue the story of her and Maui.
Probably, we will see a Moana sequel after the release of this series like we have seen in Zootopia 2, where a Zootopia+ series was announced before the arrival of a sequel.
The movie is well liked among all kinds of animation critics and there seems to be no reason to cancel the movie so Moana 2 might be under production and is likely to hit US cinemas by 2025.
Moana 2 Release Date and Time
Moana 2 is an upcoming 2023 American 3D CGI animated adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation. It will serve as a direct sequel to the original Moana film that was released in 2016. Even though, a release date is not yet confirmed, we can expect it to release sometime in 2025.
The first movie received two nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song(How Far I’ll Go) in the year 2017, and was a critical and commercial success that grossed over $690 Million on box office.
Moana series is coming with a live action movie
Monana series is currently in the works as the official announcement has been made by Disney Animation in the beginning of 2022 while another big news is, a live action film of Moana has been confirmed by Dwayne Johnson.
Walt Disney posted an announcement video on their official YouTube channel. The video features The Rock saying, “We are so excited and happy to announce that a live action reimagining of Moana is in the works.”
Hehe the chicken, Moana, and Maui will be part of that in the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Dwayne revealed that he is drawing inspiration from his grandfather for his character Maui in the movie.

Is there an official trailer for Moana sequel?
No official trailer has been released for Moana 2 by the Disney animation studios but fans have made some unofficial trailers by combining the clips from the first movie. However, there are no official teasers, posters, or reports available at the moment that can give a sneak peek to the sequel.
However, there’s an unofficial trailer that arise hopes that there will be new part named Moana 2: Sea of Darkness mentioning the same animation studio that brought Zootopia and Frozen. Fans are naming new films as The Lost Island and Lost in New York but all of them are unofficial, just Reddit speculations that aren’t true.

Most of all the older characters will return to reprise their roles in the Moana sequel such as Auliʻi Cravalho will come to reprise her role as Moana, the daughter of the village chief. She is Disney’s first latina princess. There will be also some entries in Moana Chapter 2 but no new faces has been out till now.
Dwayne Johnson is casting as Maui, the legendary demigod who gets easily annoyed and becomes the companion of Moana on her journey to restore the heart of Te Fiti.
Temuera Morrison will reprise his role as Tui, Moana’s overprotective father in the upcoming sequel. Rachel House will be starring as Tala, the mother of Tui who shares a passion for the ocean with her paternal granddaughter.

What to expect from Moana sequel?
As the movie centers upon a courageous girl named Moana who is on a perilous journey to save her people. She is the daughter of a chief in a Polynesia village and is chosen by the great ocean to complete a task, she is assigned to reunite a mystical relic(heart) with the goddess Te Fiti.
In her journey, she encounters a legendary demigod who accompanies her in the mission of saving her village people and uniting the relic with Te Fiti.
Moana 2 plot details will be focusing on the life of Moana after becoming a true pathfinder as in the ending of first movie, the girl rediscovered herself. So, the upcoming part will open chapter 2 of Moana’s life and witness her homecoming.
In the long voyage, she encounters various sea creatures that blocked her way but eventually she paved her way with the help of demigod. Now, she will return back her home from the lost island Moana and encounter with various new monsters.
