Frozen 3 was confirmed earlier in February 2023 by Disney’s CEO Bob Iger while presenting the Q1 earnings.
The Walt Disney Company announced their plans regarding the future of three most popular Disney’s franchise: Toy Story, Zootopia, and Frozen.
It was announced that Pixar will develop Toy Story 5 while Disney Animation Studios will be in-chage for the production of Zootopia 2 and Frozen III.
Will there be a Frozen 3?
Yes, there will be a Frozen 3. It was announced on 8 Feb 2023 along with the announcement of Zootopia 2 and Toy Story 5.
Oscar-winning director Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are not returning as co-directors, a report from The Wrap stated. Here’s what Lee has to say:
All our stories are driven by the artists in the studio. Where we’re going with Frozen did not come from me. It came from an incredible person. That’s a new piece, I’ve told no one. And I’ve been blown away by it, and I’m just having a blast with that team.
Does that mean that the new Frozen won’t be as good as the first two films?
Of course, not. Different directors have their own directing style but that doesn’t mean the movie is not going to be good as the other movies.
While Disney is still searching for a new director, Jennifer Lee will still be involved in the creative progress as an advisor.
Let me tell you another reason why we aren’t worried about the director replacement.
It’s because the concept of threequel is not coming from Lee and if she has to direct the film then it would be a whole new concept to her like any new director. So, that won’t make any difference.
Frozen 3 Release Date and Time
An official release date is yet awaited but since the film is under development in 2023 and the production of the last film took four years to come out after the announcement.
Since we don’t know how long the film has been in production, we can only hope for an early release. IMDb has mentioned a 2025 release date for Frozen 3 inside the United States.
After its theatrical run, the movie will be released on Disney+ throughout the world like Lightyear, Moana 2, Elemental, Turning Red, Luca, Ralph Breaks the Internet, The Lion King, Finding Dory, Incredibles, and other films from Disney.

What is Frozen 3 gonna be about?
The first Frozen (2013) movie follows the journey of two sisters, Anna and Elsa in the magical Kingdom of Arendelle. Elsa possess the power to create ice and snow while Anna is her younger sister who is locked inside the place away from her sister.
When Elsa accidentally plunges the whole kingdom into eternal winter, her sister Anna comes to rescue with a rugged ice harvester Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven along with a hilarious snowman named Olaf to bring back the summer. The movie ends with Elsa learns to control her powers.
The second Frozen (2019) movie begins with Elsa hearing a mysterious voice from a distant enchanted forest. Our determined Elsa embarks on a journey to know about the origin of her mysterious powers that she learned to control in the first movie.
Elsa sacrifices herself to save her little sister Anna and discovers that the source of her powers lies within the people of Northuldra. Eventually, Elsa become the new guardian of the magical forest while Anna becomes the queen of Arendelle.
The official synopsis for the third Frozen movie hasn’t released yet but we can take the idea from the previous films to see the direction in which the movie will go in the future.
Since the last film ended on a heartwarming note, we can expect Frozen 3 to continue the journey of two sisters as new rulers and guardians of their realms.
We have seen that Elsa’s powers have come from Northuldra but we haven’t got the chance to delve deeper into the origins.
