Based on a novel of the same name written by an American author Ann Napolitano in 2020, the drama series is developed by Jason Katims under True Jack Productions and Apple Studios.

The story is about a 12 year old boy named Edward who survived a plane crash that killed all other passengers on board including his family. He and others affected by the tragedy can relate with each other while going through the heartbreaking ordeal. Colin O’Brien is starring as the young survivor Edward Adler who is nervous for his family shifting to LA, Taylor Schilling as Aunt Lacey who has recently married but the wedding seems to be cramful. Connie Britton as Dee Dee and Audrey Crosa as Zoe, her two friends who are cheering up their friend to begin her marriage life.
Eva Ariel Binder as Shay, Anna Uzele as Adriana, the girl who decides to run for grandmother’s seat and helps Kojo (played by Idris DeBrand) in throwing a Ghanaian funeral. Other cast members are:

Is Dear Edward based on a real story?
The series is based on Ann Napolitano’s 2020 novel of the same name and the author has revealed in a recent interview that his book was inspired from the true story of a 9-year-old Dutch boy named Ruben Van Assouw from Tilburg who survived a fatal plane crash that left all the passengers dead.
Who is Ruben Van Assouw?
In 2010, a flight was going from OR Tambo International Airport in South Africa to Tripoli International Airport in Libya but the Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 crashed on approach to its destination runway killing 103 out of 104 passengers on board, the only survivor was a 9-year-old Dutch boy Ruben.
In the series, we see a 12 year old American boy as the sole survivor of the flight travelling between New Jersey and Los Angeles. The boy’s age, country, and even flight has been changed but the incident remains the same.
Where was Dear Edward filmed?
Filming of Dear Edward began in March 2022 and wrapped in August 2022 covering almost six months. The cast and crew members were spotted at the 72nd street west entrance of Central Park on 21 March inside the New York City.
At the time of starting the production, an entire aeroplane was trucked to a soundstage in Queens, NYC. Ann was told that the shooting also took place in Los Angeles and Miami.
One of the series star Eva posted a photograph on the final day of filming on her instagram that says, last day of filming in Nyack, a village in Orangetown, New York. The production team utilized the densely populated Long Island along with some prominent locations of upstate.
Is Dear Edward sad?
The series is sad yet inspiring television series that will surely make you cry. Edward is a lonely traumatized introverted boy who started living in his own kind of way after losing his parents in the flight crash.
The only person she can share her pain is Shay, her neighbour who has lost his older brother while aunt Lacey is attending a support group. So, the series is sad without any doubt but the level of story telling is highly appreciable.
