A five-star resort, a couple celebrating their anniversary, new friends who seem a little too perfect. That’s the setup for The Paradise Murders, and for ninety minutes the film convinces you that its beachfront hotel is one unbroken slice of paradise. It isn’t. The production stitched that illusion together from several real places along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, and none of them share a name with the fictional resort on screen.
Director Richard Switzer shot the film under the working title Murder in Paradise, starting production in mid-February 2025 and wrapping by early March. Lifetime premiered it on October 10, 2025, and Netflix picked it up soon after. Kayla Raelle stars as Emma, with Mo Sehgal as her husband Jake. Their vacation turns into a murder investigation once fellow guest Sarah, played by Taija James, is found dead after confiding doubts about her own partner, Tom. The Five-Star Weekend was filmed on Nantucket, the small Massachusetts island that Elin Hilderbrand made famous in her novels. Peacock’s new drama, led by Jennifer Garner, needed a setting that felt real, so the crew skipped the usual Hollywood shortcuts.
They flew out to the island itself, shot for three weeks on its beaches and cobblestone streets, and filled the background with actual local shops and landmarks. A smaller portion of the series, mostly interior scenes, was built on soundstages in Los Angeles.

Series creator Bekah Brunstetter told NBC Insider that the production had to be careful and selective about what they actually shot on the island, since time and budget only allowed for three weeks of location filming. Author Elin Hilderbrand said watching her book come to life on the real island was one of the best experiences of her career, second only to the birth of her children.
Eel Point Road and Wauwinet Road
Hollis’s beach house exterior was filmed at a private residence on Eel Point Road, with additional waterfront shots gathered along Wauwinet Road. Both roads are known for large, expensive homes that face the water, and they gave the production the sweeping ocean views the story needed. The house itself is not available to rent, so fans hoping to book a stay there will be out of luck. Downtown Main Street
Nantucket’s Main Street served as one of the show’s main outdoor filming locations. It is lined with cobblestones and historic buildings, and it gave the crew a ready made backdrop without needing to dress up a set. CRU Oyster Bar
CRU sits right on Straight Wharf and is one of the island’s most popular seafood spots. Hollis and her friends are shown dining there in the series, and the restaurant is mentioned in dialogue as early as the first episode. In reality, the exterior of CRU was filmed on location, but the actual dinner scene inside was shot on a Los Angeles soundstage built to match the restaurant’s look. The real CRU serves dishes like wild striped bass and butter roasted lobster, so fans visiting the island can order the same kind of meal the characters enjoy on screen.
Wicked Island Bakery
Wicked Island Bakery is known for its morning buns, made with Vermont butter and Tahitian vanilla bean and finished with a caramelized sugar topping. The bakery box and the buns themselves appear in episode eight, when Hollis brings breakfast to her houseguests. The cast and crew reportedly kept coming back to this bakery even on days they weren’t filming, which says a lot about how good the buns must be.
Stubby’s Diner
Stubby’s is a classic American diner on Broad Street, serving burgers, wraps, clam chowder, and fish and chips. The restaurant does not appear as a filming set in the series, but Jack, played by Timothy Olyphant, mentions it by name in episode eight. It is a small detail, but one that Nantucket locals will catch right away.
Bartlett’s Ocean View Farm
Bartlett’s Farm is a working farm on the island that has supplied fresh produce to Nantucket residents for generations. The series features it as one of the real spots woven into Hollis’s world, reflecting her identity as a food writer who cares about where her ingredients come from. It is one of the locations that ties the show’s culinary theme directly back to the island’s own food culture.
The Chicken Box
The Chicken Box is a well known roadhouse bar on Nantucket, famous for live music and a laid back crowd. It shows up in the series as part of the island’s nightlife, giving the story a break from the polished beach house scenes and a taste of Nantucket’s more casual side.
Los Angeles Soundstages
Not every scene needed the real island. Interiors, including Hollis’s kitchen, living room, and the inside of CRU, were built on soundstages in Los Angeles. Production designer Scott Dougan and set decorator Barbara Cassel worked to avoid a polished, Nancy Meyers style look, aiming instead for something that felt personal to Nantucket.
Cassel sourced coastal decor from shops around Los Angeles, including the Agoura Antique Mart, and also brought in items shipped directly from island stores like Nantucket Looms and Nantucket House Antiques. The team leaned into small details, like a wall of collected seagull figures and a print of an American flamingo, to reflect Hollis’s late husband’s love of birdwatching.
Cape Cod
Cape Cod is not a confirmed filming location for The Five-Star Weekend, but production teams were reportedly spotted in the area during the shoot. Cape Cod sits just north of Nantucket and has hosted many film and television productions over the years, thanks to its rocky coastline, preserved historic villages, and old fashioned seaside towns. If the crew used it for any transitional or travel shots, it would fit naturally into the same coastal world the show is built around.
