Even though, there was a small fraction but yes, some shooting took place in the original setting of the movie. The planning of the project began in August 2015 when Lionsgate announced that Reese Witherspoon is producing a film based on NYTimes best selling author.
In February 2021, Mike Barker was hired in place of director and the role of Mila Kunis was confirmed. Finally, more cast members were joined in the project in June 2021 while the main filming began in Toronto.

The neighborhood of Yorkville, Richmond, and University Avenue were transformed into Manhattan city of New York especially the Bay Street located in downtown Toronto.
Cobourg, Ontario
Cobourg is a town of Southern Ontario located along Highway 401 where the younger days of Ani were filmed. A private property was used for filming purposes, Global News reported.
The production team was spotted at the Cobourg Collegiate Institute, Willmott Street, and Brookside Youth Centre. Moreover, the friendly residents of the town welcomed the Netflix and crew.
Whitby, Ontario
Another important shooting location for Luckiest Girl Alive movie was the Whitby, a town situated in Southern Ontario on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
This location was used to picture the scenes involving Ani’s School. Trafalgar Castle School building was used as an exterior to the fictional Brentley School, Solosophie noted.
New York, USA
The remaining scenes were filmed in New York, some notable locations include Bryant Park, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, and Shelter Island Heights, Suffolk Country.
A crew member also posted a video on her Instagram that shows the filming taking place at 5th Avenue at the Rockefeller Center and Bryant Park.

Luckiest Girl Alive movie is based on a 2015 New York Times Bestselling novel of the same name by American author Jessica Knoll.
When Knoll was asked if the story is real, she revealed that the rape storyline draws inspiration from the real life experiences of other women and her own suffering as a teenager while attending a private school.
Jessica was frightened to share her story at first that people would come to the same verdict as that people did when she was in high school. This is the reason why she was reluctant to tell people that the story was based on her own experience.
