Archive 81 is a 2022 American thriller drama series developed by Rebecca Sonnenshine along with the help of The Conjuring director James Wan inspired by a podcast of the same name about researchers cataloging video archive of a missing filmmaker. The film is a loose adaptation of the podcast that follows restoration expert Dan who gets a job offer to restore a collection of damaged cassettes from the 1990s from a rich man named Virgil Davenport who was a filmmaker.

Archive 81 Filming Locations

Netflix’s Archive 81 was filmed inside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and New York during Nov 2020 to March 2021. Filming began on 16 Nov 2020 and wrapped up on 29 Mar 2021 covering almost 4 months. Even though the show sets in NY, most of the filming took place in Allegheny Country of Pittsburgh including Point Park University, Boulevard of the Allies, The Blaqk House Collections Art gallery, etc.

Some indoor scenes were also shot in Mr. Small Theatre located on 400 Lincoln Avenue and Marshall Township that is 20 miles away from Pittsburgh. East Liberty Presbyterian Church, The Rex Theater, Tudor-style Hartwood Acres Mansion and Ritter’s Diner were also featured in the film for various scenes. Pennsylvania is less known as a shooting location as most series took place in LA like recently released Pivoting by FOX.
