Search crews looked all over Bartlett for Micah, checking the routes she normally took when going for runs. But even after days of searching, there was no sign of Micah. What could have happened?

Who killed Micah Rine?

Eventually, the police started to suspect Thomas Pate. Some concerning things about his behavior raised red flags.

Police also learned Thomas was having an affair with another woman in New York. When questioned by police, Thomas asked to speak to his dad instead of answering questions.

To his dad, Thomas confessed he accidentally shot Micah in the head. But evidence showed Thomas was still frequently contacting his girlfriend after Micah went missing.

Finally, Thomas led police to Micah’s body near the Loosahatchie River bottoms where she had been dumped. He admitted to killing her by shooting her in the back of the head.

Thomas pleaded guilty to murdering Micah in the same year of committing the crime. He claimed he still loved Micah Rine and felt regret, but the judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison without parole.
