Based on the manga of the same name written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, the emotional anime series follows the story of Frieren, an immortal elf mage, travels the world after defeating the Demon King with her human companions. Fifty years later, she returns to find them aged and dying while she remains the same.
The manga has been serialized in Shogakukan’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020 and its chapters are collected in eleven volumes. An anime adaptation announced by Madhouse in Sep 2022. The first four episodes of the anime landed on 29 Sep 2023 and since that time, new episodes are airing on Fridays.

Episode 9 Recap
In Episode 9 of Sousou no Frieren, Fern and Stark are in a race against time to get the wise elder Granat to safety before he falls into the hands of the sinister sorceress Aura. Secured in the town’s church, Granat reveals Aura’s trump card – a wicked artifact called the Scales of Obedience, which can force opponents into submission.
Meanwhile, the unflappable Frieren strides into battle, facing down Aura’s army of puppets with ease. But even defeating them does not open Aura’s eyes to humanity. Frieren decides this enemy cannot be reasoned with – she must be slain like a monster.
Back in the city, betrayal strikes! Fern and Stark are ambushed by Lügner and his cunning assistant Linie. The tide turns as Stark sees through Linie’s fighting style, copied from his ally Eisen. He takes a blow intentionally to land a lethal strike on Linie.
Fern unleashes her magical gifts, proving she can cast even faster than Frieren. She overwhelms Lügner’s defenses in a blaze of power and emerges victorious.
Sousou no Frieren Episode 10 Spoilers
In Episode 10 of Sousou no Frieren, Aura will probably unveil the full extent of the Scales of Obedience’s power in an attempt to subjugate Frieren but her strong will and compassion for humanity could protect her from its control.
This could lead to a psychological battle between Frieren trying to get through to Aura and make her see the error of her ways.
Meanwhile, Eisen could turn the tide of the battle by countering Aura’s magic with his own supernatural powers. Ultimately, they have to make the difficult choice to destroy Aura and the Scales of Obedience completely.
