WHERE TO WATCH

Bugonia Filming Locations: Every Place Where the 2025 Movie Was Shot

You just finished watching Bugonia. And now you cannot stop thinking about it.

Not just the story. The places. The way every location looked slightly off. Slightly too quiet. Slightly too perfect. Like the whole world in the film was real, but just a little bit wrong.

That feeling was not an accident.

Director Yorgos Lanthimos and his team spent close to a full year traveling across three countries to find exactly the right places to shoot this film. England. The United States. And a beach in Greece that looks like it belongs on another planet.

Where was Bugonia filmed?

Filming started on July 1, 2024. The last scenes were shot in May 2025 in Greece.

High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England

High Wycombe was one of the first places where filming began. It is a large town in Buckinghamshire, about 30 miles west of London.

Bugonia filming inside High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England

The town has old buildings, quiet neighborhoods, and green countryside. All of that gave the film a grounded look, even when the story got very strange. It was the kind of place that feels familiar and slightly unsettling at the same time. Exactly what the film needed.

What you will find there: historic streets, parks, and a relaxed small-town feel.

Oxshott, Surrey, England

Oxshott is a small, quiet village in Surrey. It is well known for its large homes and green surroundings.

In Bugonia, a private estate on Birds Hill Road in Oxshott was used as the home of Emma Stone’s character, Michelle Fuller. She plays the CEO of Auxolith, a powerful pharmaceutical company. The estate is large and private. It feels exactly like the kind of place someone with that much power would live.

Why it was chosen: the area is peaceful, close to London, and full of beautiful properties that match the character’s lifestyle.

Botanica Ditton Park, Slough, Berkshire, England

This is the location used for the fictional Auxolith headquarters in the film.

Botanica Ditton Park is a real co-working space set inside 94 acres of landscaped parkland near Slough. It has large office spaces, meeting rooms, a gym, a cafe, and plenty of open green space.

The modern look of the building worked well against the chaos of the film’s story. It felt cold and corporate in all the right ways.

Address: Riding Court Road, Datchet, near Slough, Berkshire

Culden Faw Estate, Buckinghamshire, England

One of the most interesting locations in the film is Teddy’s house, where the kidnapping takes place. The house, including the basement where most of the action happens, was not a real home. It was built as a set on the Culden Faw Estate.

The estate sits on the north bank of the River Thames at Hambleden, northeast of Henley-on-Thames. It is a private property that hosts weddings, concerts, and other events.

The area around Hambleden has appeared in many other well-known films, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, 101 Dalmatians, and Sleepy Hollow.

Arborfield Studios (Longcross), Berkshire, England

Some indoor scenes were filmed at Arborfield Film Studios, located in the village of Barkham in Berkshire.

Arborfield is a former military base that was converted into a film and TV production studio. It is now managed by Longcross Studios. The site has three stages, three main office buildings, six workshop buildings, and two large backlot areas.

This gave the production team a lot of space to build sets and shoot interior scenes.

London, England

A few scenes in Bugonia were also filmed in London.

The Billingsgate Market location seen in the film is actually the newer Billingsgate facility. It is located off Trafalgar Way at the eastern end of the North Dock of the West India Docks in Poplar, East London.

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Atlanta was the main filming location in the United States. The city is often called the Hollywood of the South because so many major films and TV shows are shot there.

The Bugonia production team benefited from several things Atlanta offered:

  • Strong film tax credits from the state of Georgia
  • A large pool of experienced film crew members
  • A diverse landscape with forests, city streets, and suburbs
  • A mild climate for most of the year

Studio scenes were filmed at Blue Star Studios in Forest Park, just southeast of Atlanta. Blue Star Studios sits on a 53-acre campus with modern production facilities.

Specific Atlanta locations spotted in the film include:

  • Sunshine Plaza at 1231 Moreland Avenue SE, the local mall where Teddy and Don go shopping
  • Fernbank Museum of Natural History at 767 Clifton Road NE, seen in a montage sequence
  • Jackson Street Bridge, the well-known spot with the downtown Atlanta skyline view, also recognizable from The Walking Dead

Griffin, Georgia, USA

Griffin is a small town located about 40 miles south of Atlanta. Its small-town feel worked perfectly for certain moments in Bugonia.

One memorable scene shows Teddy cycling through Griffin to pick up food from the Easy Shop Supermarket at 375 N 13th Street.

Other films shot in Griffin include Weapons and Quarantine 2: Terminal. The town has also appeared in The Walking Dead.

East Point, Georgia, USA

East Point is a city about six miles south of Atlanta. It sits inside what locals call a Film Triangle because it is close to major studios including Tyler Perry Studios and EUE/Screen Gems.

A few scenes from Bugonia were filmed here. The area has a different look compared to downtown Atlanta, while still being close to all the production resources the team needed.

East Point has also been used for Stranger Things and the Fear Street film trilogy.

One specific location in the film: Washington Road Pharmacy at 3518 Washington Road, East Point.

Ellenwood, Georgia, USA

Ellenwood is a quiet suburb southeast of Atlanta. It is home to the Reynolds Nature Preserve and the South River Trail.

The open, wild landscape of this area made it a good fit for scenes that needed a more rural and deserted backdrop. It adds to the film’s strange, isolated feeling.

Sarakiniko Beach, Milos Island, Greece

Now we get to the one that everyone remembers.

Sarakiniko Beach on the Greek island of Milos is the most visually stunning location in the entire film.

The beach is famous for its bright white rock formations and vivid blue water. The rocks were shaped over thousands of years by wind and waves wearing down volcanic stone. The result looks almost like another planet. Some people see it and genuinely cannot believe it is real.

The final scenes of Bugonia were shot here in May 2025.

Here is something interesting. Director Yorgos Lanthimos originally planned to shoot the ending at the Acropolis in Athens. But the Central Archaeological Council of Greece denied the request. The team chose Sarakiniko Beach instead.

It was a better choice. The beach gave the ending a truly otherworldly quality that no other location could have provided.

Sarakiniko Beach is now one of the most photographed places in the Aegean Sea, and after seeing this film, it is easy to understand why.

How was Bugonia Shot?

Cinematographer Robbie Ryan shot around 95 percent of the film on VistaVision. This is a high-resolution 8-perf 35mm film format. It is the same format he used for Poor Things, another Lanthimos film.

VistaVision gives the movie a wide, immersive look with a classic film texture. It has not been used this heavily since One-Eyed Jacks in 1961.

For the head-shaving scene, the crew used four VistaVision cameras at the same time and shot the whole thing in a single take.

Is Bugonia Based on a Real Story?

No. Bugonia is based on the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet, directed by Jang Joon-hwan. Jang was originally set to direct this version but stepped down due to health reasons. He stayed on the project as an executive producer.

The story is fictional. But every place used to tell it is very real.

Final Thoughts

Bugonia used a mix of real-world locations to bring its strange story to life. Each place was chosen for a reason. None of it was random.

The UK gave the film its grounded, slightly unsettling suburban setting. Georgia added an authentic American small-town feel. And Sarakiniko Beach gave the ending something that no studio set could ever replicate.

If you want to visit any of these places, Sarakiniko Beach and the Atlanta locations are the easiest to access. The beach, in particular, is one of the most unique natural landscapes in Europe. Seeing it in person might feel just as surreal as watching the film.
