Off Campus on Prime Video is set at the fictional Briar University in Massachusetts, but the show was not filmed anywhere near New England. The breakout romance series, adapted from Elle Kennedy’s beloved books, brought Hannah and Garrett’s world to life using real college buildings, real hockey arenas, and real bars that fans are now desperate to find.
The production team spent four months in 2025 turning a real university, real sporting venues, and real city streets into the world of Briar University, and the results speak for themselves. Every location in the series has a real address you can look up and visit. Here is the complete guide to where Off Campus was actually filmed.
About Off Campus
Off Campus is a romantic drama series on Prime Video based on Elle Kennedy’s bestselling book series of the same name. The series follows events from the first book, where a musician named Hannah Wells and a star hockey player named Garrett Graham make a deal to help each other, and their unexpected connection grows into something more.
Where was Off Campus Filmed?
Although the story takes place in Massachusetts, Off Campus series was filmed entirely across Vancouver and the surrounding areas in British Columbia, Canada. Principal photography for the series began around early June 2025 under the working title “Lillian Way” and continued for about four months before wrapping in early October of the same year.
The filming locations have become a travel bucket list in their own right, with viewers eager to figure out exactly which real corners of Canada were transformed into the fictional Briar University. The answer is rooted almost entirely in British Columbia, and it is a far more layered production geography than most people realize.
Is Briar University a Real Place?
The college from Kennedy’s novels, located in the fictional town of Hastings, Massachusetts, is not a real place. However, you can visit the gorgeous Canadian campus where they filmed the show.
The production team used multiple real locations across Vancouver and Greater Vancouver to build the look and feel of Briar University on screen.

University of British Columbia: The Heart of the Production
The show began filming Season 1 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Students spotted production outside the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre last summer, which is where Garrett first asks Hannah to tutor him in Episode 1. According to IMDb, production took over UBC from June to October 2025, and fans were quick to notice Briar U branding and student fair banners posted around campus in places like the Martha Piper Plaza.
The fraternity house is a legacy residential property in Vancouver’s West Point Grey neighbourhood. Built in 1915, this craftsman-style wood-frame residence is currently home to Sigma Phi Delta, UBC’s engineering fraternity chapter.
Adams Hall in the series is the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, with the iconic Ladner Clock Tower. This is UBC’s central learning and library hub, built around the original 1925 Main Library. The Bristol House is actually the UBC Chemistry Building.

The Hockey Venues: Where Garrett Graham Played
Hockey is central to Off Campus, and the production made sure the ice rink scenes felt as real as possible.
The Briar University Hawks ice hockey arena is the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre on the University of British Columbia campus in Vancouver. Rebuilt in 2008 to 2009, the complex contains three ice surfaces, including the 5,000-seat main arena featured in the series.
The ice rink in the second episode, “The Practice,” is the Father David Bauer Arena, a smaller community rink that is also part of the Thunderbird Sports Centre complex at UBC. The production’s decision to use two distinct rinks within the same facility added visual variety to the hockey scenes without pulling the crew across town.
The Pacific Coliseum was also used for some of the scenes in the series, typically the locker room scenes and some game moments, lending the sport of hockey a whole new level of scale and intensity. Real arenas add to the grounded reality behind Garrett’s athlete lifestyle, and as a result the romance feels more lived-in, energetic, and believable.
The Heatley: Where Hannah Works at Malone’s Bar
The Heatley at 696 E Hastings St. was used as Malone’s Bar, the place where Hannah works and the hockey guys like to hang out.
Malone’s Diner and Bar exterior was filmed at The Heatley, a neighbourhood hangout located on the corner of the historic Heatley Block building in Vancouver’s Strathcona area.
The scene of the musician coming out of her comfort zone and embracing pop music for her scholarship was also filmed at The Heatley.
The DOUGLAS Hotel: Dean’s New York Apartment
The Douglas Hotel was used as Dean’s apartment in New York City where he and Allie hooked up on Thanksgiving in Episode 5. The actual suite where they filmed everything is The Den, and you can stay there for around $3,578 a night.
The lavish Den Suite features a stylish two-level space with modern interiors, a private lounge, and a sweeping view of BC Place Stadium, which amplified the romantic tension between the characters.

Riverview Hospital: The Block Party and Exterior Campus Scenes
Some exterior campus scenes, including the Briar U block party scene, were filmed at the former Riverview Hospital, a screen favourite used in countless productions from Virgin River to the 2003 Christmas classic Elf.
For the purpose of filming the series, the crew took a 40-minute drive from downtown Vancouver to Coquitlam, where filming was conducted at Riverview Hospital at 2601 Lougheed Highway.
Victoria and Deep Cove: The Scenic Backdrop
Victoria’s Inner Harbour and surrounding waterfront streets appeared throughout the series, helping expand the world outside Briar University. The elegant harbour views added a more mature and cinematic feel to certain episodes, especially during quieter moments focused on friendship and personal growth.
Why Vancouver Was Chosen for Off Campus?
Vancouver has earned its reputation as one of the most production-friendly cities in the world, and Off Campus follows a long tradition of major productions choosing British Columbia for its versatility.

The campus was also used in movies like Fifty Shades of Grey, as well as shows like Riverdale and Smallville, as per Elite Daily.
