Night Sky(aka Lightyears) is an American sci-fi series directed by Argentinian filmmaker Juan José Campanella and created by Holden Miller with Daniel C Connolly under Amazon Studios and Legendary Television Productions. Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons are starring in the lead role of the series.
It follows the story of an old married couple who discovers a hidden portal in their backyard that opens to a deserted planet that looks exactly similar to Earth. The series started premiering on Amazon Prime Video after its official release on 20 May 2022.
Where was Night Sky filmed?
Night Sky series was filmed inside villages of Chicago, Illinois during summer 2021. Principal filming began in June 2021 and wrapped up in October 2021. Most of the filming took place within the Cinespace Film Studios of Chicago. Some other notable filming locations were Woodstock, villages of Frankfort, Island Lake, and Wauconda.
Cinespace Chicago Film Studios is a big film studio located at 2621 West 15th Plaza, established in 1988 within the capital city of Illinois. This is also the location where indoor scenes are set and the CGI scenes weren’t possible without this location. The studio served as the place where mysterious landscapes scenes were filmed and after the transitional scenes, the shooting locations shifted to rural towns.
The series project was ordered on 21 October 2020 by Amazon Studios and in March 2021, the casting couple was confirmed as Sissy and Ed O’Neill. But in April 2021, the male cast was replaced by JK Simmons. More cast members were announced in May 2021 and finally the official filming began in June 2021.

All the characters have played their part well especially the couple who are also the central characters of this story. The plot setting is well matched with the rural towns.
