Showtime has released one of the most awaited American drama Television series that follows a romance between two popular country musicians George and Tammy. The limited drama series is based on The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy & George by Georgette Jones.
The series is directed by John Hillcoat and produced by Freckle Films, 101 Studios, Youth Studios, MTV Entertainment, Mad Chance productions, and Showtime Networks for Paramount Global. Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon are starring in the lead roles of Wynette and Jones in the drama series. Let’s see if that’s real or reel.
Is George and Tammy a true story?
Yes, George & Tammy series is based on true life events that George Jones and Tammy Wynette have experienced in their life. Abe Sylvia has created the fast paced series with the help of the couple’s daughter Georgette and her memoir The Three of Us.
Even the real love story is more strange than fiction. Tammy was born in Mississippi and spent her childhood at a cotton farm but she come to stardom after divorcing her first husband. She then took her children to Nashville to pursue her singing career.
Tammy also meets her second husband Don Chapel in the same US state and signed to Epic Records. As the time passed, Tammy become a fan favorite that attracted a lot of eyeballs and eventually she met another well known country crooner, George Jones to fall in love with him after witnessing a heated argument between Tammy and Don Chapel.
Where is George and Tammy filmed?
Production of Showtime’s George and Tammy began on 8 December 2021 inside Wilmington, North Carolina. Most of the interior scenes were filmed at Dark Horse Studios and EUE/Screen Gems Studios.
You can also recognize the two locations of downtown Wilmington, The Rusty Nail and Thalian Hall, if you ever been to this place. Some sources reported that the series was awarded funds as a part of NC Film & Entertainment Grant rebate program.
IMDb noted that the concert scenes were taken at Ryman Auditorium of Nashville, Tennessee and the shooting wrapped up on 11 April 2022.
