The lake looks calm. The woods look quiet. But anyone familiar with Friday the 13th knows that Camp Crystal Lake is no ordinary summer camp.
Peacock’s Crystal Lake takes us back to the beginning of the horror franchise, exploring Pamela Voorhees’ life before she became the killer fans remember. This time, the story unfolds across small-town streets, wooded camps, diners and familiar New Jersey landmarks.
So, where was Crystal Lake filmed? The series was shot primarily across New Jersey, with the production using locations in seven counties to bring its fictional town and surrounding Wessex County to life.
From Camp Ocawasin in West Milford to Blairstown, the town associated with the original 1980 movie, here’s where the series was filmed and which locations fans can visit.
Where was Crystal Lake filmed?
“Crystal Lake” was filmed entirely in New Jersey, according to showrunner Brad Caleb Kane. The crew built the fictional town of Crystal Lake and the show’s Wessex County across seven New Jersey counties.

Now let’s walk through each location.
Camp Ocawasin, West Milford
This is the heart of the show. It’s the real Camp Crystal Lake you see on screen.
The new Camp Crystal Lake was recreated at Camp Ocawasin in West Milford, a private, rustic venue with a timber lakefront lodge used for events and parties. The camp provides the show’s title lake and its creepy woods.
Why not use the original 1980 camp? Size was one reason. The production chose Camp Ocawasin because it offered a larger lake for the new series.

Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, Hardwick Township (The Original Camp)
This camp doesn’t appear in the new show. But every fan should know it.
The original slasher movie was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Hardwick Township, Warren County, which is still an active Scout camp. The showrunners scouted it, and its buildings remain unchanged, including the boathouse. However, filming is no longer permitted there.
The good news for fans? The camp offers limited filming location tours.

Blairstown
This is the location fans care about most. Why? Because it’s where it all started.
The main street of the fictional town of Crystal Lake was filmed in Blairstown, near Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. The same town also appeared in the original 1980 film.
Kane loved how little it had changed. He told Deadline that the township has barely changed in 45 years.
The locals loved it too. Location manager Dena Ghieth said many residents have their own stories from when the original was filmed.

Hartung’s Diner’s exterior was filmed at a building that houses the Blairstown Museum. The interior was a set built inside an empty storefront in Boonton. There’s a fun link to the 1980 film here. In Friday the 13th, Hartung’s also appears as the general store where Annie stops to ask for directions.

The road to the screen was bumpy. In May 2024, Bryan Fuller was fired from the series after A24 chose a different direction. Kane then took over.
Kane insisted on New Jersey. His reason was simple. He said “trees look different in Jersey.”
Fans were part of the shoot too. People showed up to sets in franchise merch, tattoos, and Jason hockey masks.
The timeline also changed. In the original story, Jason drowns in 1957. The series moves this to the ’70s.
