Bupkis is an action comedy series written by the trio of Judah Miller, Dave Sirus, and Pete Davidson for NBC’s streaming service, Peacock.
This is an autobiographical comedy show of Staten Island native Pete Davidson, who is also starring in the main role as himself along with his girlfriend Chase Sui Wonders.
Davidson and his girlfriend showed off their love at the New York City premiere afterparty.
Even though, the couple chose not to walk hand-in-hand, but still, they spent quality time together at the event like Nadia and Mason in Citadel series of Prime Video.
Bupkis Filming Locations
Bupkis was filmed in New York City, particularly in different boroughs of the city such as Queens and Staten Island, from October to December 2022.
Different boroughs and sites across the city were utilized for shooting, such as Long Island City’s Van Dam Diner and Staten Island’s Marina Cafe Restaurant & Tiki Bar and Lacey’s Bridge Tavern.
Several iconic landmarks in the city, including the Statue of Liberty and Times Square, can be seen in the background of many scenes throughout the show.
Long Island City, Queens
Many important scenes of ‘Bupkis’ were filmed in Long Island City, a neighborhood in Queens, New York. Specifically, the filming unit used the premises of Van Dam Diner at 45-55 Van Dam Street.
Long Island City is a popular filming location due to its proximity to Manhattan, the availability of studio spaces, and its diverse architecture, which can easily double for different cities and locations.
Marina Cafe Restaurant & Tiki Bar
A significant portion of filming took place in Staten Island, particularly at the Marina Cafe Restaurant & Tiki Bar located at 154 Mansion Avenue.
According to the restaurant’s owner, Rosemarie Saladis, the production team used the restaurant’s kitchen as the primary filming location for the show.
The filming at Marina Cafe took place for an entire day, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saladis was approached by someone related to the production about a month before the filming started.
John Street, Staten Island
Production team also shot some crucial scenes in Staten Island’s John Street.
In one scene, Pete Davidson was seen slipping into the passenger seat of a Ford pickup truck stationed at the corner of Eaton Place, a street that forms a one-way in a left-hand turn from John Street.
The crew appeared to hold up the action as the sound of drag racing engines roared through the neighborhood.
Lacey’s Bridge Tavern, Elm Park
Another significant filming location for ‘Bupkis’ in Staten Island was Lacey’s Bridge Tavern located at 75 Innis Street.
The production team set up camp at the tavern after shooting a few parts on John Street.
According to reports, the tavern was heavily guarded by security during the filming, and while Joe Pesci peeked inside a few times, he did not know which actors would be appearing in his place on that particular night.
Other Landmarks in New York City
Several iconic landmarks in New York City, such as the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, the Empire State Building, and the World Trade Center, are expected to be seen in the background of many scenes throughout the show.
These landmarks add to the aesthetic and authenticity of the show’s New York setting. If you are visiting NYC then you don’t miss to explore the United Nations headquarters, the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, Washington Square Park, and other monumental buildings.
