YNW Melly(Young Nigga World Melly) or James Maurice Demons is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who is known for releasing various popular Hip Hop songs such as Murder on My Mind, Suicidal feat Juice Wrld, 223’s, and Mixed Personalities feat Kanye West.
However, the rapper is in headlines these days because of the crimes he commit. Some reports claimed that he has gotten a death penalty but nothing has been official as per the Florida State Police. Read on to find out the full information available regarding YNW case.

He was arrested on 13 Feb 2019 on two counts of first-degree murder. Since that time, he has been in Broward main jail, Florida.

The testimony begin on 23 May 2023 and continued over the next two weeks till the beginning of trial on 5 June 2023 whereas Miami Herald has reported that the trial will begun on 20 June.
The local news media also reported that a judge has reduced the thresehold of Florida’s death penalty inspired from Parkland School Shooter that didn’t get the death penalty due to a split jury.
However, the mother of Florida based rapper Jamie King is so sure that his son will be released from the prison after the conclusion of trial but fans feared the death punishment.
The rapper’s death penalty is among the first to consider after the change in death sentence threshold. Currently, 8-4 vote to recommend a death sentence is the lowest threshold in FL.
There were a total of 28 people who were in support of YNW Melly including his friends and studio witnesses and the best part is that, most of them are either affiliated with Miramar police or other law enforcement agency.
Why was Melly charged?
Melly was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder of his childhood friends: Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr on 13 February 2019 while his crime partner, Cortien Henry was arrested for helping Melly in covering the whole plot. YNW can be subjected to a death penalty or life imprisonment if convicted according to Pitchfork. Moreover, the rapper is also a suspect in the 2017 murder of a Gifford Sheriff.
On 2 April 2020, he shared on his Twitter that he tested positive for Covid-19 and requested prosecutors to release him early from the prison regarding health issues.
But his application got rejected by the judge on April 14 and his plan to come out remained intact. Moreover, the prosecutors are pushing him to a capital punishment considering his case as a heinous, atrocious, and a premediated murder.

Recently in April 2022, Melly has shared that he will be home this year. He smiles ahead of the double murder trial but the consequences will be tragic if convicted, even he got a lifetime imprisonment or certain death by lethal injection.
It was delayed several times due to unresolved legal issues but finally the time has come for Florida court to serve justice. If Melly found guilty then there will be a break of few months and a trial will happen.

No, YNW Melly is not free yet. He is still in the prison without any confirmation of a release date. Rapper’s mother Julie claimed that his son will be released in March 2020 but that didn’t happen due to Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, his request was rejected to release from the prison.
