Directed by Anjelica Huston from the scripts of Anne Meredith, Bastard Out of Carolina is a 1996 American drama film produced by Amanda DiGiulio for Showtime Networks.
The Emmy award winning film is based on the 1992 novel of the same name written by Dorothy Allison that talks about a girl child who endures sexual and physical abuse from her stepfather.

The film follows the story of Ruth Anne “Bone” Boatwright, a young girl growing up in a poverty-stricken home in Greenville, South Carolina. Bone’s mother, Anney, is a hardworking woman who does her best to provide for her children, but she is constantly being taken advantage of by her abusive husband, Glen.
Glen is a cruel and abusive man who takes out his frustrations on his family. He is constantly hitting Anney and berating her. He also sexually abuses Bone, which is something that she keeps hidden from her mother.
Despite the abuse that she suffers at the hands of her father, Bone is a strong and determined young woman. She is determined to make something of herself and to get out of the poverty-ridden life that she has been born into.
It is a moving and powerful film that is sure to stay with you long after you have seen it, the film that is not only about the abuse that Bone suffers, but about her strength and resilience in the face of it.

The story is purely fictional and has nothing to do with real life but we have to say that is a powerful and moving story about a young girl growing up in the south in the early 1900s.
