The holiday rom-com lineup is getting a warm, hometown boost this year, thanks to A Christmas Pitch – a cozy, small-town Christmas tale filmed right in western Kentucky.
Directed by Brian Hanford and written by Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez and Hanford, the movie blends family bonds, romantic sparks, and the charm of real community celebrations. With bustling holiday markets, ice-skating scenes, and a big tree-lighting finale, the film brings together everything people love about seasonal movies.
And the best part? Almost every frame was filmed on location across Madisonville and Owensboro, giving the movie its authentic, homespun Christmas glow.
Where was A Christmas Pitch filmed?
Unlike typical holiday movies, A Christmas Pitch was shot entirely in the U.S. State of Kentucky, celebrating the state’s spirit and providing opportunities for local talent.
The crew then moved to the Mistletoe Art Stroll, a real holiday event that became one of the movie’s most cheerful backdrops. Warm lights, handmade crafts, and locals bundled in winter gear give the film a true community-Christmas vibe.
Perhaps the most talked-about filming moment came at the old courthouse, where the team captured the big Christmas tree-lighting celebration. This scene was filmed right during the town’s actual lighting ceremony – crowds, music, and sparkling lights included. It doesn’t get more authentic than that.
Owensboro, Kentucky
Once the Madisonville shoot wrapped, production headed west to Owensboro, where filmmakers needed snowy romance and more holiday activity.
One of the standout sequences takes place at the Edge Ice Center, giving Jules and Nick (played by Jonathan Stoddard) a classic Christmas-movie bonding moment. From gliding on the ice to falling into unexpected laughter, the scene delivers the cozy rom-com magic viewers expect.
Owensboro is also home to the region’s growing film hub. After wrapping A Christmas Pitch, Goldenrod Film and Television expanded into the Kentucky Sound Stage, helping bring more Hallmark- and GAF-style holiday stories to life in the area.

The production team chose to keep filming in authentic Kentucky locations rather than substituting Canadian cities, allowing the film to genuinely showcase the heart and spirit of the Commonwealth while taking advantage of the Kentucky Entertainment Incentive program that helped make the production possible.
The hometown world premiere in Madisonville was a massive success. The first screening sold out so quickly that the theater had to open a second auditorium to accommodate everyone. That reaction says everything about how much the film means to the local community.
Kristi Kilday shared how important this project is for Kentucky’s growing film scene. She credited the Kentucky Entertainment Incentive for helping make the production possible – an increasingly valuable program drawing filmmakers to the region.
“This is a celebration not just for me and Jeremy,” Kilday said, “but for the cities of Owensboro and Madisonville – and for the entire Commonwealth of Kentucky.”
