Sweet Magnolias Season 3 has just released on Netflix and fans are excited to explore all the wonderful shooting locations where this whole series took place.
Based on the novels of the same name by Sherryl Woods, the romantic drama series is developed by Sheryl J. Anderson and produced under Daniel L Paulson Productions.
The series stars JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley as Maddie, Danna, and Helen, the three bestfriends from childhood walking through the complexities of romance, family and career. The much-loved trio is back to entertain us with their sweet experiences.
Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Filming Locations
Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias was filmed in Covington and Atlanta in the US state of Georgia. Pre-production of the series began in early June 2022 when the team was planning and exploring the new shooting locations as first two seasons were filmed at the same location in Covington.
Director Anderson posted her excitement in an Instagram post that reads:
Thrilled to be plotting and planning Season 3, with friends, old and new!!!.
On 1st July 2022, Swisher posted a photo on her Instagram saying that, she had dyed her hair again, confirming that she has returned on the filming set and is getting ready for Sweet Magnolias season 3.
Principal filming of Sweet Magnolias season 3 began on 18 July 2022 as per the reports. More updates regarding the filming were released on the official page of Sweet Magnolias. The caption reads:
“‘Shall we begin?’ So happy to be welcoming everyone home to Serenity for day one of filming Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias!”
On 3 Sep 2022, Anderson shared a photo featuring the cart that was used for filming while thanking Dulce Artisan Gelato, the gelato stall owner. The shooting officially wrapped on 20 October 2022, Sheryl tweeted the following:
“We finished filming Season 3 last night. It’s been a joy to spend another season in Serenity, working with, laughing with, and learning from amazing artists in the cast and crew. Our community made something beautiful for you. I’m grateful to them and excited for you to see it!!!”
Covington is a well known filming location among filmmakers where numerous successful films and TV shows have been filmed like The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017), Legacies (2018-2022), The Underground Railroad (2021), On a Wing and a Prayer (2023), etc.
Sullivan’s restaurant Real Location in Sweet Magnolias Season 3
Dana Sue eatery is located 116 Clark St SW, Covington under the name of Mystic Grill. The historic building underwent restoration to welcome its guests. It is mentioned on the official website that the filming of The Vampire Diaries inspired the owners to bring the on screen restaurant to life.
Is Serenity a real town?
No, the Serenity town of South Carolina doesn’t exist in real life. Moreover, filming of the series was done in a different state at the same location where Hello, Mystic Falls! was filmed.
The town was inspired from Sumter, a real town of South Carolina that author used to visit to meet an old family friend in summers. Sumter is a small town and a nice place to live as there is low cost of living and friendly neighborhood.

But one should not forget, the place is ranked among the highest crime cities in America with a crime rate of 40 per thousand residents.

What is Sweet Magnolias Season 3 about?
Three seasons of the series have been aired so far. Out of which, first season introduces us to three childhood female best friends who call themselves Sweet Magnolias. Maddie, a newly divorced mother of three with Dana Sue, an extraordinary chef Dana, and Helen, a career minded lawyer.
Season 2 shows the miscarriage of Helen and her choice of picking up a person between her ex or start a real relationship with Erik. It ends with a mysterious woman from the three women’s past ruining their lives for no reason.
Now, we have Sweet Magnolias season 3 that has revealed the identity of that mysterious woman while Maddie and Cal are working on their relationships, and Helen choosing Ryan and Erik.
