Prime Video’s Maintenance Required (2025) restyles the enemies-to-lovers trope with new humor, heart, and explosive chemistry from Madelaine Petsch and Jacob Scipio.
Directed by Lacey Uhlemeyer, the romantic comedy takes place in two different worlds: a small, grease-covered mechanic shop run by a female crew, and the posh corporate auto firm across the street.

Maintenance Required Filming Locations
Maintenance Required was shot over various cities in England and California. Major landmarks like Yorkshire, Leeds, Harrogate, San Francisco, and Big Sur were strategically used to emphasize the emotional and visual disparity between the two protagonists. The production started filming in August 2024 that lasted close to 7 weeks and wrapped up by mid September 2024.
The social media posted by Jade Fox claims that ‘That is me wrapped on this job. I can’t share much as per usual. But I’ve made some friends for life and met some incredible people. Seven weeks. Sad to see the end.’
Yorkshire, England, UK
Most of the shooting of Maintenance Required was done in Yorkshire, Northern England, known for its industrial heritage and picturesque towns.
The crew’s headquarters was set up at Versa Leeds Studio located at Whitehall Road in Holbeck, a district in the city of Leeds. The studio facilities include a number of sound stages, dressing rooms, production offices, and storage spaces typically ideal for crafting a complex interior set, like Charlie’s mechanic shop.
Along with studio shoots, the movie also relied on authentic Yorkshire street and backdrop for authenticating Charlie’s world in a realistic working class setting.
The film also captured scenes in Harrogate, a beautiful town in North Yorkshire. Harrogate’s charming buildings and small businesses beautifully suited the town for filming outdoor scenes that captured the warmth of the small town that Charlie’s shop community strives for.
San Francisco and the Bay Area, California
A significant portion of filming came as a result of traveling to California, specifically San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area, which is noted for its striking cityscapes and filmic beauty.
Filming for the production took place in several locations around the Bay Area where the crew captured Beau’s high speed professional city driving and street scenes intercut to highlight the contrast to Charlie’s busy workshop to Beau’s fast-paced professional life.
Monterey County, California
The 600 Montgomery Street located Transamerica Pyramid serves as a Beau’s auto company headquarters in the film. The crew also filmed around 1 Ferry Building, capturing the wide angles of the bustling city portraying the bay and the busy vessels.
Along with several sequences filmed on the public streets, the downtown area of San Francisco brings out the city chaos that adds color to the storyline.
Rumor has it that the production team went to Seaside to the South of San Francisco for some of the smaller outdoor scenes.
Big Sur, California
Big Sur has become the focus of the film’s emotional climax that includes footage of the dramatic cliff line of central California, along the scenic Highway 1, famous for its dramatic cliffs overlooking the ocean.
During this section of the movie Maintenance Required, Charlie is re-experiencing some pivotal moments of her life, passing through an emotional resolve while shedding her past, and learning to see life and love differently.
The region is captured for its majestic cliff sides, rest assured, it has been the filming location for Blockbusters like Ruby Sparks, Basic Instinct and even Big Sur that came out in 2013. Charlie’s emotional switch signifies importance and adds to the magnificence of the region. It adds a touch of cinematic grandeur to the film.
Big Sur is equipped with captivating scenic landscapes that has granted it the affection of countless Hollywood productions, including Ruby Sparks, Basic Instinct, and Big Sur (2013), making it a valuable addition to this tender love story.

What is the movie about?
The world of Maintenance Required is the same as the world we live in, but exhaustively cleaner. Madelaine Petsch plays a strong mechanic shop owner Charlie, who prides herself on all female crew she has built over the years, in a male-dominated field.
But her peaceful world turns upside down when a flashy corporate auto service center opens directly across the street — run by none other than Beau (Jacob Scipio), a charming yet competitive businessman with very different ideas about the auto industry.
Doing her best to be ahead of the competition, Charlie comes to leak anxious, restless energy by spending her nights on the forums of cars, talking to what seems to be an anonymous friend who works well to empathize with her. Little does she know, her online friend — named BeauWheels — is actually Beau, her rival in the tangible world.
Their online conversations grow more complex with every message and their combat in the real world becomes more intense. The identification of the characters is done so in the midst of a large balance of emotional humor and intense feelings.
The range of feelings is intense and close to the top of the surface. Charlie and Beau, having hurt each other with lies and levels of competition, need to figure out whether their love is still intact.
