The Finnish Line Filming Locations
True to its name, The Finnish Line was filmed primarily in Finland, with some scenes shot in Iceland. The filmmakers expertly created a real environment for the dog sledding narrative using the breathtaking wintery landscapes of these Nordic countries.
Finland
Most of the shooting happened in the snowiest and most beautiful place in the world, the northern Lapland region of Finland. Key places include:
Santa Claus Village, Rovaniemi
The iconic Santa Claus Village in the Lapland capital of Rovaniemi serves as a key filming site. Its quirky appeal and festive mood wonderfully fit the Christmas theme of the film.
Santa’s Post Office, Tähtikuja 1
Santa’s Post Office is still another important filming site in Rovaniemi. Well-known for its enchanting and cosy atmosphere, this tourist destination adds authenticity to the story’s Finnish roots.
Arctic Resort of Kakslauttanen, Saariselkä
The production team also filmed at this renowned resort, famous for its glass igloos and stunning views of the Northern Lights. This location’s enchanting beauty adds a sense of wonder to the movie’s visual appeal.

Iceland
The Finnish Line crew visited Iceland, a nation of spectacular settings and unspoiled natural beauty, for filming some scenes.
Reykjavik, Iceland
Some urban sequences were filmed in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. The film mainly displays the tranquil Tjörnin Lake, which is situated in central Reykjavik and offers some peace among the snowy adventure.
Ski Lodge next to the geothermal power station Hellisheidi
A few scenes were shot near this popular skiing destination, blending adventure and Iceland’s rugged beauty to enhance the film’s winter sports vibe.
Iceland has long been a favorite among filmmakers for its breathtaking views and versatile landscapes. The Netflix movie Luther: The Fallen Sun was filmed here, along with the iconic fantasy series Game of Thrones, further cementing Iceland’s status as a filming haven for captivating stories.
Behind The Scenes
Filming The Finnish Line brought unique challenges and heartwarming moments to the production team. Shot in Finland and Iceland, the movie captures the magic of snowy landscapes while staying true to its sledding theme.
Filming in Lapland’s frigid weather posed challenges, but it also gave the story its authentic winter charm. The sled dogs were key to the film’s success. Professional mushers and trainers ensured the dogs performed seamlessly during intense racing scenes.
Lead actors Kim Matula and Beau Mirchoff were trained on how to handle sledding equipment and build a relationship with the canines to provide authenticity to their performances. The picturesque Santa Claus Village and Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Finland, along with Iceland’s rugged landscapes, were transformed into the perfect holiday setting, blending adventure with festive warmth.
